PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler fired a final-round 8-under 64 on Sunday to post a one-shot victory at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The win marked the 100th official PGA TOUR victory for The University of Texas Men’s Golf program, accomplished by 17 different individuals in the 98-year history of the TOUR.
This marked the second-straight week that Scheffler has won on the PGA TOUR, as he captured the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week at Bay Hill in Orlando. It marked his second PGA TOUR victory during the 2024 calendar year and the eighth overall in his career. All eight of his wins have come during the last 26 months. In seven starts this season, Scheffler has recorded six top-10 performances and has not finished worse than tied for 17th.
The No. 1 player in the world, Scheffler became the first back-to-back winner in The Players Championship’s 50-year history. Scheffler registered a 72-hole score of 20-under 268 (67-69-68-64) to defeat a trio of individuals at 19-under that included Brian Harmon, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark.
Scheffler began the day at 12-under, five shots behind 54-hole leader Schauffele and in a tie for sixth place. Scheffler holed out for eagle at the par-four No. 4 and then added birdies at No. 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12 to catch Schauffele. He added a final birdie at No. 16 to climb to 20-under.
