Evacuations

Five subdivisions in south Jefferson County have been evacuated overnight and early Wednesday morning due to a growing wildland fire in an unincorporated area. The affected subdivisions include:

  • Deer Creek Mesa
  • Sampson
  • Maxwell
  • McKinney
  • Murphy

Additionally, the Silver Ranch and Silver Ranch South subdivisions are under pre-evacuation orders. 

An evacuation center has been set up at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, and large animals are being accommodated at the Jefferson County fairgrounds.

Road Closures

Road closures are currently in place for South Valley Road south of Ken Caryl Ranch and Deer Creek Canyon east of Deer Creek.

Fire Details and Challenges

The Quarry fire was detected around 9:30 p.m. on July 30, identified as a vegetation fire west of Ken Caryl. As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the fire has zero containment. The area is characterized by steep terrain and dense vegetation, including timber and scrub oak, which has been observed flaming up to 50 feet high.

Community Safety and Precautions

Residents in the affected and surrounding areas are urged to stay alert, follow evacuation orders, and adhere to all safety instructions provided by local authorities. The community is reminded that fire restrictions are in effect, and the fire danger remains very high.
