Man City’s Rodri limps off injured against Arsenal

Manchester City midfielder Rodri left the pitch injured during the first-half of the top-of-table Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was injured during a City corner attempt and went down in pain before being replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

“Rodri is strong, but he left the pitch, so for Rodri to do that, he must have felt something,” Man City manager Pep Guardiola said after the match.

Man City scored a late goal through John Stones to level the score in second-half stoppage time as the defending champions salvaged a 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The incident came after a clash between Rodri and Arsenal striker Kai Havertz just seconds after the starting whistle when Havertz seemingly collided with him.

“I don’t know, the truth is I don’t know [how Rodri is],” teammate Bernardo Silva said after the game. “He’s walking, I don’t know if there’s anything else, but so far we don’t know. I think we’ll know more tomorrow. I don’t think [Rodri] left [on crutches], not now. But he left in a bad way, he wasn’t very well, he asked to be substituted. Let’s see what the doctors say.”

Rodri was ruled out of the start of City’s season after picking up a hamstring injury at the 2024 European Championship.

After a successful run with Spain in the summer, Rodri propelled himself into contention for the Ballon d’Or.
