MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Here comes the heat and humidity we gave you the First Alert to nearly a week ago! The heat index will climb into the dangerous range for the end of the week.
HEAT ADVISORY
A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect for the entire area from 11:00 AM through 8:00 PM. The combination of temperatures in the 90s and very high humidity will push the heat index to 105 to 110 from midday into the early evening.
To stay safe during excessive heat, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
TODAY & TOMORROW
The heat continues to increase through the end of the work week. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s by the afternoon. The risk of a storm or two remains isolated at just 20% today and 30% on Friday. There’s a bit more data to suggest a few more storms around Friday afternoon.
Regardless, prepare for another heat advisory to be issued on Friday. The heat and high humidity will likely send our heat index to the 1105-110° range again.
INTO THE WEEKEND
We’ll keep the excessive humidity around through the start of the weekend. The heat index will climb near 110° in some spots on Saturday.
We’ll reintroduce a better chance for showers and storms during the weekend, but it still won’t be enough to cancel any plans. Scattered showers and storms will likely be around both afternoons with rain chances at 40%. The heat index will still be high, but should be below heat advisory criteria come Sunday afternoon.
