WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Democratic Vice Presidential nominee and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was in Winston-Salem on Thursday, Oct. 17 for a campaign rally as early voting began in North Carolina.

Walz was hosted at Carver High School in Winston-Salem, along with Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough, rapper Common and others.

Hundreds of supporters from the Triad and beyond were in attendance. News 2 spoke to several people about their decision to attend.

“First of all I love the energy that he brings and then the policies as governor of Minnesota I think are great,” Dennis Malloy said.

We spoke with one voter who says he is a registered Republican but will be casting his vote for Harris and Walz.

“Being a business owner myself I love how she is talking about wanting to help small businesses. One of her core values is always building up the small businesses and the middle class,” Tremayne Blair said.

When Walz took the stage, he started by acknowledging those devastated by Hurricane Helene

Gov. Walz spent the majority of his speech discussing various economic policies, including affordable homeownership, expanding Medicare, and reducing costs.

Walz promised tax cuts for 100 million middle-class adults with his running mate’s Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic plan as well as a promise to regulate price gouging.

He talked about abortion rights and addressed Lt. Governor and Republican candidate for North Carolina Governor Mark Robinson’s extreme stance on abortion laws. He promised Harris would sign a bill codifying Roe v. Wade into law.

Walz finished his speech by encouraging supporters to vote early.

With 19 days until election day, there are many more stops in our state to be expected, urging voters to cast their ballots.
